What is a children’s check up?

At The Dentist we try to provide a relaxing and enjoyable experience for your children. On their first visit, our aim is to get them used to the environment and to have fun. We will do everything we can to make the visit as easy as we can.

Why do children need a check up?

  • The benefits in children as with adults is to prevent the need for treatment.
  • It helps to ensure problems are avoided or that they can be dealt with before they have a chance to worsen.
  • To prevent fear of the dentist as an adult by early positive experiences.
  • To educate children of the needs to look after oral health from a young age.

How often will my child need a check up?

  • Every 3-6 months depending on their oral health.
  • On your first visit to The Dentist we will advise the best interval for them.
  • If you have any problems between check ups there is no need to wait, we will always be happy to see you.
  • Tooth brushing advice.
  • Diet advice to help stop decay and for better overall health.
  • Advice on need for orthodontics and the right time to do so.
  • Referral to NHS or private orthodontics as you wish.
  • Application of a fluoride varnish every 6 months, helping to strengthen teeth and prevent decay.
  • Gum checks.
  • Radiographs if needed.
